London Demo 18th March 2002
In
spite of the British weather, three Gibraltar supporters managed to
demonstrate outside Downing Street this afternoon in sympathy with
the rest of Gibraltar. The three were Frank Bado, John Borda and Richard
Shipley, a sympathetic Englishman. We stayed outside Downing Street
until 5 p.m. and got a fair bit of interest and support from passers-by.
We even had a group of Spaniards wish us luck! The afternoon passed
without incident, though the police did try to move us further away
from Downing Street. Fortunately, it's hard to consider three people
as "obstruction", so we got away with standing on the Downing Street
side of Whitehall, which is a bit more sheltered than the official
demonstration area! At the end, Frank Bado handed the posters from
his sandwich board over to the Downing Street police, for passing
on to Mr. Blair.
