Ep4: Salvage
Translation of taped conversation that took place in [DELETED]
last month. While the transcript has been altered to remove
incriminating names, we believe the conversations took place as
stated.
[SUBJECT 95]: Did you hear the repair team's report? They say the
boat might have been deliberately holed!
[SUBJECT 23]: What! I thought it couldn't be accidental! Was it
THEM?
95: No, they think someone aboard did it. Do you think we've been
penetrated, sir?
23: Impossible... but the timing was far too coincidental. It's
as if someone wanted THEIR boat to rescue our people.
95: But all our people returned safely- do you think they passed
on information?
23: They had no access to useful information- wait a minute! No!
It's too horrible to contemplate!
95: What on Earth could be so bad?
23: Someone is forcing our people and THEIR people into contact!
And, worst of all, in situations where they have to co-operate!
95: How can that hurt us, sir?
23: Don't you see? Our official line is that THEY're sub-human
criminals- this kind of situation undermines everything we've
worked for!
95: But surely co-operation is the best option against the
genuine criminal element in the area? I believe THEY did help out
our people in an operation where we had trouble, recently.
23: No, no! [SUBJECT01] was happy to let that area go to pot in
order to undermine THEM. Now he's gone, we're responsible for
continuing that policy. Sacrifices must be made.
95: If you insist, sir... is it too late for damage limitation?
23: Yes, dammit, THEIR press people already have the story. We'll
just have to find something else to muddy the waters. Our own
press probably won't touch it, so that should suffice for now.
But who could be doing this? And why?
95: Our repair team couldn't be mistaken, could they?
23: You forget the timing- no, someone wanted our boat to suffer
the indignity of being rescued by THEM, I'm sure of it! And then
there was that fire near the border on our side that THEY put
out, too!
95: Aren't you being a little paranoid, sir?
23: Are you out to get me too? Are you after my job? For all I
know it's you who's responsible for this incident!
95: Now hold on, sir, I couldn't have been...
